The whois command is a utility that is part of the information gathering tools. We can use the Whois command to retrieve information such as contact details, organisation name, IP and geographical location.
The use of ‘whois’ varies partially from system to system, but there is a common ground which is to provide the IP/website address after the command.

The whois command behaves differently for IP address and site name.
For IP addresses, the information is much more substantial. Here we have addresses, phone numbers, organisation information and everything else.
Whereas for the site name, we can see that the information is certainly less substantial but still relevant.
